It starts here
Any Canadian who watches TV knows the Canadian Tire Guy. He is a bearded fellow who likes to brag about the latest Mastercraft gadget from Canadian Tire. But until today, I had no idea that there was such an undercurrent of dislike for him. I won't say I was surprised to learn this, but I was a bit taken aback that Macleans dedicated over two pages of its print edition to deride him and generally insult his manliness.
A quick google search on the subject reveals others who feel more or less the same way.
Watching Montreal Canadiens hockey Saturday, I discovered a French Canadian Tire Guy, also dicussing the merits of the solar-powered generator. He lives in the same house as English CTG, he and his neighbour have the same shirts as their English counterparts, but he has no beard.

Don't Start with Me.
I too Jonathan was surprised by how many people are talking about the Canadian Tire Guy. Then I stumbled onto my roomate's blog talking about the same thing. But I think I was most surprised by the people defending the bearded, condescending jerk. I mean, let's all join together and hate the character, but maybe leave Ted alone.
Hey Jon
I'm the aught five/aught six trainee for Schoorl... And I can say with all honesty that it's nice not to have to see beardy weirdy every hour on the hour when I'm waching the Ceeb (although I do miss it). Instead I have the wonderfull nul negenhondred comercials, to watch when I have insomnia. That or the Discovery chanel.
Steve,
There are a few other good channels in that package. The National Geogaphic channel isn't bad, and some of the Beeb channels have some good stuff.
Hope you're enjoying life out there in the dunes.
